Volunteering That Makes a Difference: Leisure Networks and Feed Me Surf Coast Team Up

Leisure Networks is excited to partner with Feed Me Surf Coast to offer a new community volunteering program that gives people of all abilities the chance to connect, contribute, and grow.

Through this program, participants volunteer in a welcoming, supported environment, helping Feed Me Surf Coast reduce food waste and provide food for people in need. Participants take part in a variety of hands-on activities, from sorting and stocking produce to packing food hampers, assisting at the checkout, and helping with basic food preparation. Every task is tailored to individual strengths, ensuring everyone can be involved in a way that feels rewarding and meaningful.

“Programs like this are about more than volunteering,” says David Meade, CEO of Leisure Networks. “They give people the chance to belong, contribute, and feel proud of the difference they’re making in their community, while building skills and experience that can support future employment opportunities.”

Leisure Networks support workers accompany participants, helping them build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy the social connections that come from working together as part of a friendly, supportive group. Transport is provided to and from the Torquay site, making it easy for everyone to get involved.

Feed Me Surf Coast is more than a food rescue organisation, it’s a community hub where people can connect, share, and support one another. “We’re thrilled to partner with Feed Me Surf Coast,” David Meade adds. “It’s a perfect example of how collaboration can create meaningful opportunities for participants and strengthen our local community at the same time.”

As a not-for-profit organisation, Feed Me Surf Coast shares our commitment to supporting the community. Their focus is addressing hunger, while ours is on disability inclusion. Together, we are building capacity for participants, strengthening community connections, and creating opportunities for people to thrive,  all while helping reduce food waste and hunger.

This program runs weekly on Tuesdays throughout 2026. By volunteering, participants gain new skills, make friends, and experience the joy of giving back while making a real difference in the Surf Coast community.

Leisure Networks respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands and waters of Australia. We are committed to inclusive communities.
