Championing Inclusion: Why Level the Field Matters

Sport and active recreation play a vital role in communities across Victoria. Yet people with disability remain underrepresented in paid and volunteer roles within the sector.

Level the Field, delivered by Leisure Networks in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria, is tackling this challenge by creating meaningful employment and volunteering opportunities while building the skills and capability of the sport and recreation workforce.

The program gives eligible organisations the opportunity to take practical, meaningful action that creates welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environments, ensuring lasting, systemic change.

Funding Streams:

  • The Long Game: $50,000–$350,000 for systemic, organisational change across multiple sites or regions.
  • Levelling Up: $50,000–$250,000 for practical employment or volunteering projects.

Successful applicants also gain access to:

  • Learning and Development Hub, delivered by Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria, providing training, mentoring, and resources that reflect best practice in disability inclusion.
  • Regionally based Inclusion Coaches who bring lived experience and local insights to guide organisations through the grant process and project delivery.

Inclusive workplaces benefit everyone. Organisations and communities gain skills, insights, and diverse perspectives when people with disability are included in paid and volunteer roles. Level the Field is about more than opportunity, it’s about creating lasting impact across Victoria’s sport and recreation sector.
